It’s hard to believe that the little guy is already 6 weeks old. He’s putting on weight and doesn’t feel like a fragile doll. He’s starting to focus on us and develop all around. Even better we have a┬áconsistent┬ábed time.

Our parenting milestone was a couple of weeks ago when we realized that we weren’t swaddling him properly. We would wrap him, but leave his arms free. During this time he’d only sleep 1-3 hours at a time. And we would hear lots of grunts throughout the night. After a Tweet from a friend recommending the book, The Happiest Baby on The Block, I bought the e-version of the book after a wicked 2 hour session of trying to get him to go back to bed.

After reading the book and utilizing some of the techniques, he’s been so much better. I highly recommend the book to any new parents.

I just noticed all the photos I posted are from night time / feedings. That’s what happens when you work all day.

Visiting Grammy & BobPa

We went to visit Grammy and BobPa today (my mom and dad).

Best part of the visit? Grammy and I got an actual smile out of GrayBug. Not a gas smile, but a real smile. He was cooing at us and just generally showing off. We got a few smiles out of him, but this is the best picture.
5 Weeks Social Smile
Yup, he’s smiling at me. He knows his mommy. It makes those sleepless nights worth it.

Grammy bought an antique cradle the day after I told her that I was pregnant. She has been taking GrayBug’s picture in the cradle every week since he was born. He’s starting to fill it out.

Here he is in it at three days old…

And at five weeks…

He also tried on BobPa’s Bears hat. It’s still a little too big, so we might have to look into getting him his own in Bug-size.

Grammy loves to hold him and talk to him. The great thing about visiting Grammy’s is I don’t have to change any diapers.

Thanks for having us over again!!

1 Month Quick Update

The little dude is one month and a day. Man, it’s hard to keep up and try to blog about him at the same time. Because of a lack of sleep and the possibility to relieve Mrs. Shoo from rocking duty, I will do this blog in list form.

  1. We (me and Mrs) miss sleep. I should say consecutive hours of sleep. We’ve got him on a pretty good schedule. We can even get him to go 4 hours at a time. You want a mental challenge, try convincing a baby at 3am that it is time to go….. see book.
  2. Mrs. Shoo is turning out to be an incredible mom. Talking about knowing your kid inside and out. She can smell a poop 10 ft away, predict a burp-splosion, and know exactly what the little guy wants (hint: it’s poop, sleep, or food).
  3. Babies are invites for strangers to talk to you.
  4. The dogs have settled down. Still a little jealous, but they’re cool with the kid.
  5. Grandparents are worth their babysitting time in gold.
  6. The bouncy chair brought sanity back into the house.
  7. My wardrobe is a 24/7 burp cloth.
  8. I did nothing with my free time before baby. It feels like I have to rush and squeeze every ounce of freedom out of free time.
  9. You become pretty talented with only being to use one hand.
  10. Grayson is incredible even after I can’t believe you want another bottle kid, I just changed your diaper 30 seconds ago, 45 minutes just to get out the door moments. We love this guy.
