I love her voice. I can’t think of the artist who her voice resembles, but I could get into it.

Her Myspace.

Whatever You Like

Weird Al is a genius.

Parody of T.I.’s Whatever You Like

Music for Joe 6pack.

Not even going to try to put my political views out here on the intertubes. That’s all I need, someone calling me out by my middle name. I am registered to vote though.

In the meantime, how about some music to wait out this election… mmm maybe bailout?

So in no particular order or theme, here are my picks till that fateful Tuesday. Just some random albums I’d loan you if you stopped by to borrow music. Feel free to contribute in the comments.

Dan In Real Life - A musical masterpiece by Soundre Lerche. The album is a perfect compliment to the movie.

Fav Track: To Be Surprised

Weezer’s best non-color titled album, Pinkerton. Why can’t all the other Weezer albums be like this one?

Fav track: The Good Life

Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come. One of the most underrated punk albums that I know of. I don’t many other underrate punk albums. This is a great one to work out to.

Fav track: Liberation Frequency

Frank Black - Christmass. It’s Frank Black from the Pixies. Can’t go wrong with this one.

Fav Track: Where Is My Mind

Tegan and Sara - So Jealous. Two hot chicks that like other chicks.

Fav Track: I Won’t Be Left

Justice - Cross. Get funky. I promise they won’t yell at you to put your hands up in the ayre.

Fav Track: D.A.N.C.E.

Genius.

I’ve got to say that I’m a fan of the new iTunes 8 and Genius Sidebar feature.

I am really lazy when it comes to creating playlists. I rather just hit shuffle and go, but this make it pretty easy. You just go to a song that you’d like to hear similiar artists / music genres and click the Genius icon and it creates a list up to 100 songs from your library.

It looks like you can save and drag & drop your newly created playlist on your iPod.

Only thing I don’t care for, is you’ve essentially given Apple a hand in your music collection and they know your taste in music. But Apple never did anything eviiiiiillll?!

Anyone else using it?

New music Buddy.

Not only does a great job of stealing socks, marking his territory - he can pick out music.

What he’s picked up in the last few weeks.

The Avett Brothers - The Gleam II: A six song release, like previous of The Gleam, I am still trying to get into this one. Slow and lyrical intense songs.

The Decemberists - Picaresque: Their release before The Crane Wife (one of my favorites). It has a lot of the elements from The Crane Wife which makes me appreciate that album even more, but I like it.

Devotchka - A Mad and Faithful Telling: These guys were at Lollapalooza and I didn’t get to catch their set. So far, this one is all over the place with different musical stylings. I just checked their Wikipedia, and it says they were once the band for a burlesque show.

Booka Shade - The Sun & the Neon Light: Saw these guys too at Lolla’. They’re German techno. Enough said.

Float.

Flogging Molly’s album Float has been on heavy repeat since Lollapalooza.

Lollapalooza - A three day recap. (day 1)

First off - Some observations:

  • I feel left out of the body modification crowd. I have no tattoos, piercings, or wild and crazy hair except for morning bed head.
  • $2 for a bottle of water isn’t a bad price.
  • My teenage angst years are long gone. I no longer fear the man; I am the man.
  • The 80’s are alive again. I mean it. Huge sunglasses, neon colors, running shorts.
  • Music still speaks to me.

I drove up late Thursday night leaving Mrs. Shoo with her girlfriend while I headed to Lollapalooza with the guys. As if that was a wise decision, we’ll leave that for another blog post. We both had a great time - even though she encountered the deadly smell of a skunk and had a slight injury with some stairs - and I acted like I was 21 again and watched (note: watched, not par-taked) the guys get turn down by several girls. They eventually scored some numbers.

Three days of concert going, walking the Chicago streets, and trying to keep up with the guys can leave one Shoo tired, so I’ll do my best with the abridged version of my recap.

How about some rockin?

Day 1 -

Friday we didn’t get there till the middle of the afternoon because A. We took the bus, B. They wouldn’t allow my digital SLR in. Even though last year I didn’t have a problem at all. So I had to walk with my buddy Josh to his office which over a mile away (so it seemed) to stash it. In hindsight, if I just put it in my cargo pocket they wouldn’t have even noticed.

The first band we encountered was the Go! Team. The Go! Team was an energetic bunch from England with two drum sets and an eclectic bunch of instruments. All six of them played multiple instruments banging out indie rock tunes with hiphop lyrics. They were a great start and had the crowd going in the blistering heat.

On the way to Gogol Bordello, we stopped and listened to Louis XIV. Another bunch of chaps from England. They were all wearing suits and looked incredibly hot. They would have been a good band to see at an concert hall and not a outdoor festival.

Gogol Bordello. First of all, I picked up their super energetic album back in January last year, so I new what to expect. The concert was like polka on steroids. The band was super energetic, the crowd was into it. It didn’t matter that beer was $5 per cup, we were going to dance. Definitely one of the hi-lights from this year.

Afterwards we jetted back across Grant Park to see Jack White and The Raconteurs. Musically these guys are incredible, but again, another band that would have been better suited for a concert hall and not an outdoor festival.

For the first time, Lollapalooza was sold out this year because of the headlining band on Friday: Radiohead. I’d call myself an avid Radiohead listener. I have the majority of their albums and didn’t get into them till Kid A, but I was disappointed in the concert. Maybe I was spoiled last year with the spetacular light display from Daft Punk or the range of musical talent from Muse, but Radiohead didn’t do it for me.

I hate saying it, and I really didn’t want to believe it but I just couldn’t get into it. Maybe I needed a mind altering experience, but the feeling wasn’t there.

Probably a case of expecting too much when I would have been better not knowing anything.

Day 2 and 3 coming. Comment if you’ve seen any of the other bands.

Aphex Twin - Bright Eyes Mashup

I love music mashups more than mashed potatoes and corn.

3OH!3

I know when my taste in music is hitting the deep end (I think it’s about right now), but I guess I’ve listened to one too many Decemberists - Eric Hutchison’s - Death Cab for Cutie’s. My latest iPod entries have been on the opposite side of the spectrum of your Death Cabs with Justice, Massive Attack, and F Buttons on my Last.fm profile for the Top Artists of the Week.

So it doesn’t surprise me when I come across a white boy group that raps over heavy electronic-crunk beats titled 3OH!3 (Three-Oh-Three) that I am immediately drawn in. Even better, they’re from the land of hippies Boulder, Colorado. I don’t know what it is about groups like Atmosphere, The Beastie Boys, (here’s one out of left field) Two Skinny J’s but I immediately want to crank it up and act like I have rhythm.

From the YouTube videos I’ve watched the guys look like nothing but a good time and have really heavy beats. Definitely something Mrs. Shoo will be yelling at me to turn it down.

This may be an iTunes purchase, but for now I am going to listen to Myspace tracks.

Jerk it.

thunderheist - jerk it from thatgo on Vimeo.

The internet has changed so many things. Imagine ten years ago if someone said within 10 clicks, I can show you any video, play any song, or show you a picture of any object.

It’s just absolutely amazing.

The video is totally unrelated, other than being odd and kind of cool, to the post but it’s one of three in a contest for a DJ duo Thunder Heist.

There You Go Again.

Snob Scrilla - There You Go Again from Jan Reichle on Vimeo.

I’ve gone from being a YouTube junkie to being a Vimeo junkie. Vimeo supports HD and they all sound and look great.

Snob Scrilla has just been added to the “Music I just might buy because I heard it from the internetz list” - right after Rick Astley.

What you listening to?

Okay, if you could wear out MP3’s my Arcade Fire and Silversun Pickups tracks would be worn down to the 1’s and 0’s. That was a computer joke for the rest of you. I have been scouring the net looking for something new. I checked out Pitchfork, but out of their top reviews, I either had the album or didn’t care for the music. It’s usually a hit or miss with their reviews.

Through a link, I was digging Bon Iver, but I don’t know I could stand the guy’s falsetto voice for more than 15 minutes.

So internets, give me some recommendations. I don’t want any clunkers and don’t try to sell me the extended warranty.

Time to kick it root down.

beastie boys

On heavy rotation since 93′.

Pancake Mountain, say what?

A totally cool kids show that has awesome indie rock bands, say what? I am still investigating this show, but if anyone out there has kids, I believe you should be showing this to your kids.

How about some Tegan and Sara?

Jenny Lewis!?

Arcade Fire!
