Ties the room together.

We are in possession of an original piece of art by John Romang based off of one the photos I took on our Colorado trip this summer. It was given as a wedding gift.

To the Gs.

Marjorie, Betsy, Robbie, David, and Sada all chipped in and got us two dog beds as a wedding gift. I’ll let the picture speak for itself, but it looks like they are enjoying their gift.

There is a flap that goes over the pillow so they can burrow underneath. Bud has been the only one able to figure it out but needs a little help to get under the slip.

Most photographed wedding ever.

I present to you, Wedding Pictures - SternO Edition.

SternO was our most excellent usher / ladies man.

The dress.

IMG_8999

It’s Tuesday and I still have a wedding high. Or maybe I’m still drunk? Featured above is my beautiful bride in her beautiful dress being photographed by Dave Heinzel.

I was not allowed to look, peek, or even daydream about the dress till the ceremony. And I was warned multiple times that if I even caught a glimpse of it she call the whole thing off. Faithful to the moment she walked down the aisle, I didn’t even peek as I had to haul it from the hotel to the house.

She was so pretty, she was asked by the bridal store owner to model the dress in a bridal show this winter.

Rehearsal Dinner.

By the end of the week, the intertubes is going to be so tired of wedding pictures.

Benny was the life of the party. He feared nothing. He talked to everyone. I think he even made some money off the dollar dance.

Christy, Jen

I had never met Christy before the wedding. At the rehearsal dinner I offered to buy her two beers, she immediately proclaimed that she gave her approval of me and I could marry GTG. She drives a hard bargain.

Just a bunch of fudge packers.

A 130 pieces of individually wrapped fudge did not make it out to the wedding till it was too late. Sterno did not want to pack the fudge.

Dad & Mom

My mom was upset that there wasn’t a Mother-Groom dance. I made it up to her by dancing with her to Soulja Boy’s Superman song. She had no idea what she was doing.

Nervous?

The sound clip above is a voicemail from Roommate Steve. Being the good groomsman, he tried many different ways to break me down, make me cry, get me to run, but the best prank he pulled was getting the tux rental lady to do a little switcheroo.

I was suppose to pick up my tux by Thursday afternoon so that if there was a problem with the tux they could overnight whatever was needed by Saturday. I spent Saturday afternoon cleaning the house and then leaving at 4 for St. Louis so I could pick up a bridesmaid and groomsman from the airport, leaving me no time to get my tux.

Friday I head over to pick up my tux with my dad and brother. Inconspicuously, the lady sends me to the changing room while holding my brother and dad up front so she can tell them about the prank. I come out of the dressing with everything on but the coat. I start to put the coat on when I realize that something wasn’t right. The coat was about 3 sizes to small. It was so small that my arms were almost pulled up horizontally from my body.

The lady comes up to me, “So, how does everything fit.” At this time I am starting to sweat bullets, “Everything is fine, but the coat is a little small.”
“Umm, do you think you can lose some weight? This is why you should have been in on Thursday.”

She let me sweat bullets for another 20 seconds and then proceeded to hand me the correct coat from behind the counter informing me that I just put on a kids coat.

That was about the only time I was truly nervous.

Happiness.

I am at a loss of words right now, so I am just going to post a few pictures from the wedding.

Less than 4.

By the time most of the Gotshoo audience will read this there will only be three days left to ‘the big day.’ I don’t know if you know this, but putting a wedding together can be a stressful task. Like listening to nails on a chalkboard for an hour might not be so bad. Ok, slight exaggeration.

It’s stressful, but we still haven’t killed each other. (Compromise, compromise - I keep getting wedding advice from everyone and this seems to be one of those buzz words) Killed each other, even that’s an exaggeration. We’re actually doing quite well. I’ve accounted for the major purchases (ie, cake, chairs) will be ready for the big day. GTG and Meg finished the table center pieces tonight. The RSVP list is almost a 100% complete. (Don’t go to bed angry - another tidbit of wedding knowledge) DJ has the music. Flowers - who knew weeds could cost so much? Weather seems like it we be cooperating for the day. And I am told GTG’s dress looks beautiful.

It may be stressful now, but in the end it will pay off.

8 Days.

8 Days

Someone got flowers on Friday and got to be the talk of the school.

Quilty dogs and thoughts.

I should be huddled in the mess pictured above, but I am bringing the cuteness to the online world. Today was a long day. We were at the county building at 8:15 this morning, which doesn’t open till 8:30 but I swear it said 8am, to pick up our marriage license. To get a marriage license in Sangamon County here are the requirements:

From the county website:

  • You must be getting married in Sangamon County
  • Both parties need to be present. Please come to the Sangamon County Clerk’s Office, Sangamon County Complex, 200 S. Ninth Street, Room 101, Springfield, IL.
  • You must not be related or of the same sex
  • The fee is $22
  • You must apply for the license at least one day in advance and no more than 60 days in advance
  • No blood test is required

Twenty-two bucks. Unbelievable. It will probably be the cheapest thing bought for the wedding. The budget for GTG’s shoes is probably quadruple what we payed for the license.

The only thing that has worried me is what are GTG’s students going to do when their teacher comes back as a ‘Mrs’. and has a completely different name? Not to mention, a much harder name to pronounce?

I guess her kids are two steps ahead of my worries and have collectively decided that on their assignments due after the 10th that they will have her new name ready to go on their papers. Even spelled correctly.

I think she should give them bonus points if it is: A. Spelled correctly (S-c-h-e-u-f-e-l-e). B. Begins with a Mrs. C. Double spaced in 18 Font in PINK COMIC SANS.

Well, if she doesn’t, I’ll at least give the kids credit.

Detox.

Last weekend was bachelor party weekend. Today, I am rough, so I am going to keep this simple.

Thanks to everyone. Here is a music video.

Nervous, no.

So the big day is not far away, the question I hear from everyone, “Are you nervous?” How can anyone be nervous for a huge celebration with family and friends, an event that no one is sure too forget about anytime soon? That question is usually followed by some helpful marital advice like buy it now or you’ll never get it [iphone].

DSC02718If I was even a little bit nervous, it would be about the guest list and the flow of events for the day. Creating ‘the list’ is about the hardest thing to do for a wedding. Who’s going to bring a date? Who’s not coming? Who’s going to disown us? One can only hope everyone understands that if it was possible to invite every person they’ve come in contact with throughout life, they would.

It’s postage that is the real killer, not the dinner. We’re getting the super-value-wedding pack from KFC. We got a coupon.

A lot of the day, if not the whole marriage, will be based on the weather. It will be an outside wedding so it’s all in God’s hands. I don’t trust the Gus, but I am prediciting an unseasonably warm, thank you global warming, colorful fall day and an even brighter and happier marriage. Carbon offsets can be bought at reception.

Nervous, no. Done hitch’d up, yes!

Question to the Gotshoo audience: What marriage advice do you have for a Shoo and a GTG? (I’ve already been told that this is “our” blog.)

PS: Yes, I know I setup a wedding blog and we put like squat out there, but when you ask your fiancee to write something and she has 60 essays to grade, it kind of gets prioritize to somewhere else.

Shoo (hearts) GTG

IMG_4762.JPG

The save-the-date magnets were finally finished. Now only 999 things left to do. SternO did the design. Thanks to him and his talents - who knew he could do more than just photoshopping heads on to bodies.

GTG’s side of the family is going to be totally clueless about “Shoo hearts GTG” when they get theirs. There not as nerdy as the Shoo family, so they have no idea about the blog or what GTG means.

If you’re not a frequent gotshoo reader, it means “Good Time Girl.” It’s just an alias, and the only reason we don’t use her real name is because we’re worried that her students will stumble upon the blog; they would be devastated if they found out that their teacher has a real life. That and she’s gone by GTG on here for so long.

As for the reception when we get asked about this ‘GTG’, my explanation for everyone is going to be “we couldn’t pass up a deal in the bargain bin.”

Van nostalgia.

dodge_teerts_navsized.jpg

GTG and I have already had the discussion “if we have kids” there will be a “no mini-van” clause in our wedding vows.
