For Sterno…

The staff here at the gotshoo.com has been made aware of some complaints regarding photographs published on a daily (sometimes twice-daily) basis. The photos in question feature the subject–a one Buddy Shoo–engaging in a variety of activities. Apparently some viewers think that these photographs have detracted from the gotshoo appeal.

So, we have a new photograph subject for your viewing pleasure.

Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing, Clancy Shoo!! The newest addition to the staff here at gotshoo.com.

We here at the gotshoo.com will try to vary our puppy photography, switching between the two dogs…in some cases, we may feature both at the same time…

Wow!!

Just wanted to assure you that here at gotshoo.com, we aim to please. Let us know how we can further enhance your web-viewing pleasure.

Thanks,

Gravatars are back.

Well not on gotshoo yet.

After what seems like 6 months, the gravatar.com site is back online new and improved. If you don’t know what is a gravatar - it just a photo icon that is related to your email address. Before, on gotshoo, when making comments, if you had a gravatar it would display nicely next to your name.

The new site allows people to rate their own gravatar (this used to be done through a panel of real people) and images can be cropped on the site. So no need to find someone with Photoshop to crop out a nice picture.

The site is very web 2.0 and easy to use. You can also add multiple email addresses for one account.

I’ll be adding the feature back to gotshoo.com soon.

Firefox 2.0

Firefox has released version 2.0 and it is packed with a bunch of goodies. I just downloaded it today. I haven’t had time to dig through all the features, but here are some that make it worth the upgrade.

Spell Check. Spell check right from where you are posting online. Very cool. Why did it take so long to add this as a feature? Now how about a grammar check?

When you click the orange satellite feed icon, you are taken to a page that offers choices in where to bookmark your feed.

The defaults are Bloglines, MyYahoo, and Google Reader. I’ve been using a plugin called Sage to keep track of my feeds. I assume there is some interoperability with customizing it with Choose Application.

  • If you crash Firefox or enter a wicked bad site, it will save all your information (tabs, sessions, ect..) so when it boots up it will act like nothing happened.
  • Tabs are a little friendlier with close buttons on each tab. If you get a huge amount open, you can now scroll left to right through them.
  • If your computer is a little slow, you can limit how much ram FireFox will consume.

Of course, there’s more to it than this. Checkout Lifehacker and their guide.

Zoom a little zoom.

No, this isn’t a new Spanish Cub blog. In the middle of redesigning.

  • Comments now have better formatting. (Breaks between paragraphs)
  • Updated Blogroll. It’s about time.
  • I am collecting your personal data and selling to Google.
  • More stuff later.

Follow-up: Yes, the colors are not the best. GTG says it looks too nerdy. I keep telling her that it is a work in progress which will probably be on hold for the rest of the week because of real work.

Full Geeked Out Mutlimedia.

Dave is dreaming about the 2007 iTV. I, on the other hand, have already dreamed up and put together the ultimate geek home theatre setup. PC style, baby.

What to do with all the mp3’s, pictures, podcast downloads, recorded tv shows on my computer? That was the question I had been asking myself since May of last year. My original idea was to build a mini-pc and chuck it full with all the graphics hardware and memory I would need to have a pc connected to the tv, internet, and local network.

I scrapped that idea in a few months after buying a really nice ATI video card that had it’s own tv tuner card and could record tv in the same way a Tivo could. And after that, I ended up building a system that could support the hog of a video card.

So I opted out of building another mini-computer and took the old baige box that used to be my main system and put a wireless card in it, hooked it up with a wireless keyboard and mouse and set it next to the TV. Nothing is more geeky than having a beige computer box sitting to your tv.

Fast forward to last week when I was talking to my Dad about a product he had been looking at called Music Bridge. It was essentialy a wireless box that hooked up to your receiver and played what ever was being played on your pc. Very limited, but I like the idea.

Blame my Dad, but I got all geeked out about a new multimedia setup. I made the trip to the Blue store. The Blue store and I are a dangerous combination. I think I am on the top 10 for the frequent visitor list.

At the Blue store, I found the D-Link Media Lounge. I could tell it was a great product right away. It had support for HDMI, S/PDIF Digital Audio, S-Video, Composite Video, Composite Audio, a LAN port and Wireless. I asked a guy in a blue shirt, “What is your return policy on this?” He replied, “Dude, that thing is awesome ..(didn’t hear much after that).. like a first born or something.”

Needless to say, I made a purchase.

How it works. It’s connected to my TV and sound system. I have an application that runs on my PC where I have all my podcasts, mp3s, and movies. I tell it what I want to share with the media lounge. It goes out, searches, and makes everything available.

Works great, but a few things that I have tweak out.

  1. The response is a little slow when flipping through photos. Most of my photos are around 800k. Whatever my 5 megapixel camera spits them out at. I think I can improve the preformance by hooking it up to LAN connection.
  2. Music plays and sounds great. Although, the management of my library of music is to be questioned. Music can be browsed by Artist, Album, Playlist, or Folder. When I ripped my music (note: legally - okay there might be some old school P2P, but I’ve turned my ways.) I ripped them into a directory structure MP3\Beastie Boys\Licensed to Ill. Then I would stick my playlist into where the tracks were located. Unfortunately, the playlists were all named “playlist”, so when I browse by playlist I am clueless. Best thing I can think of is to write a program to rename all the playlists to the directory they are stored in.
  3. Video - Actually doesn’t do a bad job over wireless except it can not play mp4 in the AAC format. The format that Apple’s iTunes commonly uses and the same format my Sony camera creates videos in. I don’t know what I’ll do about this but take it into consideration the next movie download or try to show podcasts.

Overall result, happy and it doesn’t look geeky at all.

Site Update

I was able to do a little revamping with the site today. A little Spring cleaning as you will.

So, what is the verdict?

Meditation

Merf’s birthday pictures are now up. I am working on the concept for the video. I have spent many hours in meditation and drinking beer tonight. Some how everything is very fuzzy and almost two faced. Still trying to figure that out.

As for the old videos, I am lazy, here is a the directory they are located.::. http://merf.gotshoo.com/Video/ .::.

This however is my inspiration

Hot or Not

I didn’t realize how old the ‘H0t or Not’ website is. The concept was born on October 3, 2000. Found this article while searching the web.

I can’t remember if I have done it before, but should I post a picture of my mug? Anyone else like to join me in sharing our beauty with the rest of the world??

Posamist

Don’t know how many of ya check out Posamist.com, but its back online. It’s only been partially working for the last week. Finished it this evening. Go out and check their discussion forums.

Their live albums:

Off the beaten path.

I like my music slighty off of the beaten path. Nothing top 40 would touch, for the most part.

Cool site that I came across of (actually saw it in the Chicago Tribune) is Pitchfork Media. Reviews on the Decemberists, M.I.A (got to get that CD), Basement Jaxx, Snow Patrol… ect. Good site.

PARTY!

Shoo’s “Drinking-Buddy” aka Merf, the man who has the biggest birthday party of the year. I finally got his blog up and running.

Do you think that might be a problem?

Since I ’shall’ be moving out soon, and gets sooner each day, I have been reading this blog “Things I hate about my Flatmate” Its down right hillarious. Here is an excerpt from today’s post. Ohh and they’re British. The Brits are so damn funny.

Before I left this morning, my flatmate asked to borrow my keys so she could get a new set cut, and casually mentioned that hopefully someone will return her keys because she had her name and address on the keyring. “Are you serious?” I said disbelievingly. “Yes, after loosing them last time, I thought it would be better if anyone who found them had enough information to return them”. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Her stupidity is just to great for me to tolerate. “So, you know now that someone might have the keys to our apartment, and know where our apartment is… right?”. “I guess so”. “Do you think that might be a problem?”. “Umm, maybe..

Blog Ho.

I have strict criteria in posting new blogs, and I clearly don’t follow that criteria. So I give you now, Sterno’s Pad.

His one entry is pittiful. Not too mention talk about lack of sex, or random song lyrics, or cryptic messages, or crush du jours, or weekend follow-ups, or country song lyrics…. Just right down pittiful. I can only hope that he strives for something better.

So read his one entry; Sterno’s Pad.

Ok, I quit too to blog.

Jason Kottke has given up on the real world and turned to the blogging world. A former New York webdesigner turned to blog-beggar he looks to find the meaning of life while blogging. In summary, he is trying to blog and live off the donations of faithful blog readers.

Here’s the Wired article.

I thought a little while about this. What if I quit my job(s) and just blogged. Well the immediate fact popped in my head. Like the 25 loyal readers are my friends and most of them are students or just making it in the real world. So, that was strike one. Then I thought, okay, I build up my audience by posting dirrty poetry and naked pictures online. Too gay. Strike two. Then I thought, do a reality tv show like American Chopper. Have the Discovery Channel follow me around as I struggle from internet caffe to internet caffe sucking all the free internet and coffees down that I can get. But then I remembered they don’t serve beer, so I could never come to inner peace. Strike 3.

Just thinking about quitting and blogging would scare the be-jevus out of me. I give the guy 2 months to survive while not collecting welfare.

Actually if he was really smart, he would move to a poor country near the equator. Then he could live like royalty on $2.50 a week!

Maybe that’s a smarter idea?

Jason Kottke if you don’t make it as a blogger, I’ll soon have an apartment that you can crash at. The only deal is that you will in-turn take over Ed’s blog and chronical his life, but also clean the toliet every two days, keep the beer fresh by bringing the older stuff to the front of the fridge… that sounds like a good start. Jason, email, we’ll work something out.
