55 miles, done.

In the quest for a century ride, this weekend I did a 55 mile ride from Sherman to Mt. Pulaski to Elkhart and back to Sherman. The longest ride up to now that I’ve done has been 43 miles.

It was a beautiful day for ride. The temps were in the 80’s, the sun was out.

I did worry about what I got myself into the first 10 miles. The roads had just had new rock put down, so whenever a car would pass a dust storm would be created. I literally cried the first few miles to get the dust out of my eyes. Note, next time wear sun glasses.

I didn’t take many photos - I was more worried about making it back in one piece and not getting a flat. But I took these at Elkhart. There’s a huge incline going up to Elkhart so I needed a short rest and checked out the Elkhart cemetery.

The bike is in the shop till early next week, but my next long ride will hopefully be up to 70 miles. Anyone want to ride?

Rad! I did a somewhat similar ride one time, from the north end of town to Lincoln and back. That was my second longest ride ever I think. I stuck to old Route 66 for the most part, and the cars were all very nice and gave me plenty of room.

Glad to hear you made it back safely. I need to send off my registration for the century ride still. Not sure if I’ll do the 60 or 100 mile route. Probably depends on the wind that day. But I can’t wait!

Half Century! Great job man! I want to do 100. I felt good during my 25 miles today…but I’m outta shape…did it kinda slow. I’m hoping to bike everyday this week. Build up to a big ride next week. Maybe down to Taylorville and back.

Is there a time you ride? We should go on a journey!

I am going to try to get in a big ride Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon. The rest of the week is still up in the air. Shoot me an email, I live right off of the Wabash trail if you want to meet up.
