Amarillo.

I’ve been using Dave Heinzel’s bike tool since 2006 and if I were on an imaginary route from LA to New York, I’d be in Amarillo. This year I’ve putting on a lot more miles since I am trying do the Springfield Century (100 miles) by the end of the summer.

Today I did my longest ride… ever. 43 and a half miles. Closest I’ve got on record was 40.3 miles back in 2006 when I did a shortened version of Springfield Century on my mountain bike. Now that was a long ride.

Mrs. Shoo gets a kick out of the bike wear. I can’t post what she has said about it but yes, I’ve got the spandex and bike jersey. I think it’s essential if you’re going to have any street cred. And the butt padding helps out.

A while back I read a book on completing a Century and the basic consensus of the book was to ride a lot. So that’s my training plan - riding a lot. That and some energy bars and sports drink to keep the legs going.

Expect a few more bike posts.

Nice work! In the same period, I’ve made it to about Pomona.

I recently returned, from a family trip, to the American Southwest. I’m sorry to say that it was so hot and exhausting, I wish I hadn’t gone (sights and sounds aside). Fortunately, it was less than a week.

Maybe I should remain in Springfield, Illinois, for the rest of my life.

Cool, good luck with the century ride, it’ll be easy than you think. I’ve never ridden an “official” century ride, but I’ve done about 100 miles before. A few years back we rode the back roads down to an event in Litchfield and back. On the way back as we left Litchfield, a spoke broke on my rear wheel and I had to release my rear brake and remove the brake pads so it would spin freely since the wheel went so far out of true. Other than that it wasn’t too bad of a ride. I’ve also done some 60-miles rides, like to Jacksonville and back, and longer rides around the St. Louis area.
