What you listening to?

Okay, if you could wear out MP3’s my Arcade Fire and Silversun Pickups tracks would be worn down to the 1’s and 0’s. That was a computer joke for the rest of you. I have been scouring the net looking for something new. I checked out Pitchfork, but out of their top reviews, I either had the album or didn’t care for the music. It’s usually a hit or miss with their reviews.

Through a link, I was digging Bon Iver, but I don’t know I could stand the guy’s falsetto voice for more than 15 minutes.

So internets, give me some recommendations. I don’t want any clunkers and don’t try to sell me the extended warranty.

    Two words.

    David. Archuletta.

Just kidding, obviously. Have you tried Spoon or Vampire Weekend?

  2. 2 Mrs. Shoo

Mates of State. B-sauce introduced me to them last night. He’s supposed to be making some sort of CD for me. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ERW1UfLalw4

I also want the new Death Cab please, honey!!

And, Russ, we have both Spoon and Vampire Weekend. VW is another that Mr. Shoo wore down within the first week of owning the album.

I purchased my first Alejandro Escovedo album last week, A Man Under the Influence. It’s very good, in the roots/Americana vein. He’s been a critics’ darling for years, but he’s finally hit the big time now that he’s on my highly influential iPod.

I’m not so sure Russ is kidding about David Archuletta. He is, afterall, a big James Blunt fan.

I strongly recommend the band “What Made Milwaukee Famous.”

Great band. Sounds like “Rooney” or “Phantom Planet” with a singer who sounds like Billy Joel. Awesome stuff.

Cold war kids is one of the best bands that I have heard in years.

  8. 8 susan

I will second the recommendation of What Made Milwaukee Famous. Aereogramme is a sort-of-more-mainstream-ish Arcade Fire. Some other bands: The Album Leaf, British Sea Power, The Broken West, Beulah (although they’ve broken up, their catalog is great), Camera Obscura, The Capes, Chris Mills, David Mead, Elbow, the Features, Ill Lit

Let me know if any of those pan out.

Had it not been late, I would have kept going. Here are some J-Z bands:

Jukebox the Ghost (STRONGLY recommended), Seth Kallen, Liam & Me, The Long Winters, Marah, Maritime, Matt Pond PA, Sam Roberts and Tally Hall (STRONGLY recommended),

  12. 12 shoo

Awesome, UH. I am putting you on speed dial for the next time I need a fix.

  13. 13 Unpainted Huffhines

No problem. I’ll try to get a license on Mojo so that I can befriend more folks, and we can just meet up there.

  14. 14 shoo

UH - Are you talking about this Mojo? http://www.deusty.com/

  15. 15 Unpainted Huffhines

Sorry … was gone for the weekend … yes, that Mojo.

Try 100 Days, 100 Nights by Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. I just bought this CD a couple of weeks ago, and it gets better every time I hear it. Especially cranked up in the car driving down the interstate late at night
