Twoofus.

Mrs. Shoo told me that she went to lunch with her student council kids the other day. They were very disappointed with her because she did not bring Mr. Shoo along. What can I say, the kids love me and we take a pretty good picture together.

Two goth tacos to go.

I love Taco Bell like a pregnant woman loves food, but this caught me off guard today. Mr. Goth guy came strolling in and stuck out like a Big Mac between two bean burritos.

Not to point and make fun of the guy because everyone goes through their rebel stage of WTF. But this guy was out of place, well for Springfield at least. His hair, exactly like Johnny Dep’s in Edward Scissor Hands. And he had piercings in his cheeks. It’s hard to make out but I believe that is a pot leaf tattooed in the impressionistic style on his neck.

I am going to guess that this guy’s profession has something to do with body modification.

Trickle.

We stopped along this path to check out a trickle of a waterfall. The guy in the center of the photo is trying to get underneath to pose for a photo.

The colors on the wall are from the water clinging to the rock face. Reminds me a lot of the gunk you see under the spout in a dirty bathtub.

Run, turkey!

Run, turkey!, originally uploaded by gotshoo.

Mrs. Shoo and I scooted on over to Turkey Run State Park in Indiana this weekend to do some hiking. I welcomed the trip after spending Saturday doing yard work.

The park was super cool. I don’t know how many miles of trails there are but we hiked for over 4 hours before calling it a day. The trails went from being flat gravel to climbing up stream basins surrounded by rock walls.

I am doing some computer work from the kitchen tonight. Mrs. Shoo fed my fix for new music. She picked up the Death Cab For Cutie album Narrow Stairs. I swore I had hated DCFC but now that I think of it, it was Dashboard Confessional that I hated. Thanks Mrs. Shoo for the new music.

What you listening to?

Okay, if you could wear out MP3’s my Arcade Fire and Silversun Pickups tracks would be worn down to the 1’s and 0’s. That was a computer joke for the rest of you. I have been scouring the net looking for something new. I checked out Pitchfork, but out of their top reviews, I either had the album or didn’t care for the music. It’s usually a hit or miss with their reviews.

Through a link, I was digging Bon Iver, but I don’t know I could stand the guy’s falsetto voice for more than 15 minutes.

So internets, give me some recommendations. I don’t want any clunkers and don’t try to sell me the extended warranty.

This is what I feel like some days - not all the lights are on. Today, not that day.

You can blame Mrs. Shoo for this one.

My kind of town.

A while back there was a blog post from a nondescript blogger that was leaving ‘Stinkfield’ for good. They had lived in Abe’s town for three years and their final words was that it was one of the biggest pits in the universe.

I guess they hadn’t checked out the new Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum.

I was taken back by their post. For the first time ever, I was offended by someone talking badly about my town. I’ve only lived here my whole life and for the majority of it I would have told you living here sucked too, but in recent years it’s grown on me. I’ve got a great job, my house is more than affordable, and it takes me less than ten minutes to get to work.

Now the segue.

Those local cable access heroes Just Two Guys are considering doing a documentary based on a staggering online poll from the SJ-R where 96% of pollees rather live somewhere other than ‘Stinkfield.’ Before they start filming their doing their own poll to get a better idea of what people think of Springfield.

I’ll just go ahead and publicly answer mine:

Many people say there is nothing to do in Springfield. Do you agree with this statement? Please explain your answer.

There’s stuff to do, you just have to look a little harder in Springfield.

The music scene is a hit or miss. Most weekends all you can find in town are local cover bands or karaoke joints. But I’ve managed to see The Avett Brothers, BB King, John Prine, The Ditty Bops, Alkaline Trio, Mu330 and plenty of unknown punk bands, all in town.

Don’t expect to see a Dave Mathews Band or Poison, unless the State Fair happens to book the act, but they usually slip under the radar.

The bar scene. I have my favorite place, but the number of bars downtown has to have tripled in the last ten years. I heard someone say once that Springfield had one of the highest bar per capita ratios in the country. Don’t know if that’s true or not but they’re plenty of neighborhood bars scattered throughout the city.

The Arts. Last weekend was the annual art fair, and in the summer the Muni is a great showcase of local talent.

Random things you could do in Springfield (or neighboring communities): Rock Climbing in Rochester, play pool at Mowie’s Cue, really good Mountain biking at Site M (okay, a 45 min drive), fishing at Lake Springfield, Frisbee golf at Lincoln Park.

A common complaint about Springfield is that there is a serious lack of shopping. Do you agree or disagree? Again, please offer an explanation to support your answer.

I’ve got Best Buy, Ace, and Old Navy. Covered head to toe.

Is Springfield headed in the right direction? (yes or no)

Yes. But could someone add some hills please.

In your opinion, has Springfield gotten better in the last 10-20 years or has it gotten worse? Please explain your answer with some examples.

I am going to be optimistic here. I remember when Lincolnshire was just a cornfield and the Olive Garden was the newest chain restaurant.

In the last 20 years, downtown has improved tremendously, there’s a skate park and two bike trails.

There’s probably a slew of other things, but those stick out.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live? Why?

Fort Collins, Co. It’s beautiful, Fat Tire beer, and I don’t think I could ever get tired of looking at mountains.

Why do you choose to live in Springfield? Give as many examples as necessary.

It’s affordable.

My commute is under 7 minutes.

1 1/2hrs from St. Louis, 3 hrs from Chicago.

How would you describe the people of Springfield? Please use as many adjectives as possible.

Corny, Abraham Lincoln-y, flat, relaxed, Midwestern.

What is your opinion of the job situation in Springfield?

Business is good in the IT field. When I first graduated entry level IT jobs were few and far between and a lot of state jobs were in limbo, but looking through the classifieds lately, things look good.

Today I was the un-official official photographer of the GHS Dodge Ball Tournament. I got to practice my action shot taking abilities. It’s not as easy you think it would be, even with a multi burst shot. Still takes timing to get a shot where the person doesn’t look like they have nubbins for hands.

I’ll post more as I sort through all 400.

This is what a cheater looks like. The guy throwing the ball was suppose to go behind the white line before throwing it.

We’re all chilling out watching episodes of Lost tonight.

Ahh, the weekend.

Alice’s Restaurant.

Got to see Arlo Guthrie with my Dad and in-laws tonight. Mrs. Shoo had to call in the lefty because she picked up some kind of cold. It was a great experience. Guthrie was more of story teller compared to John Prine, whom I also saw with my in-laws, but he put on a great show.

I would go into detail about the old hippies and the stories he told, but I’ve got to watch the DVRed finally of The Office.

Lounge

Lost.

If it’s not bad enough that I follow The Office religiously, I am now addicted to Lost. It started this week when Mrs. Shoo borrowed the season 1 set from a coworker. I had actually seen the pilot when it first aired and thought wow this would be a great show to get into. I’ve even read blogs where people have had Lost dinner parties. But somehow I managed to stay away, far away, deserted from the others.

I think it was a fear of jumping in the middle and being lost. I guess that could be my answer why I never watched 24 or the Sopranos. They all follow the same plot line twists as soap operas. One plot line seems to be making a break while another is in conflict. Guess you can’t have everyone happy or you don’t have a show.

We’re on disc 3, no make that 4 of season one. What’s nice about watching the DVDs is that there are no commercials and an hour show is shortened down to 45 minutes. I wish I would have gotten addicted before the writer’s strike so I could be caught up to the current season, but oh’ well.

At least I know they’re still lost.
