Dog days of August.

Is it August already?

I got a tripod the other day and the first thing I did was to take some shots of the dog. They cooperate better than GTG and I don’t have to get a signed model release form from them.

I played with saturation and lighting levels. I like how they turned out.

With the tripod I am hoping to do some experimenting with HDR photography.

Hey there BFS.

BFS hearts the Plain White T’s and their hit “Hey there Delila.” I knew I couldn’t pass up this rendition done by the Showbiz Pizza Place band Rock-A-Fire. BFS this is all for you.

The guy, Chris Thrash, that has done this has also done Fergie’s London Bridge, RHC’s Dani California, and a bunch more. Check out his profile.

Pretty cool, but I am still a little weirded out by the animatronics. Too many greasy cheese pizza whack-a-mole moments at Showbiz.

Weiner Mobile.

Weiner Mobile from gotshoo and Vimeo.

This video is on the last leg of our Colorado trip. And you thought I had posted everything! I think at this point I have been driving for at least 10 hours. The majority of the driving was through Kansas, which is the worst state to drive through. It was such a boring drive I woke up GTG just to get video of the Weiner Mobile. As I describe it in the video, it was an epic moment.

Detachable but not professional.

Next weekend I am going to Lollapalooza, a huge three day concert festival in Chicago. I’ve been trying to determine if I can take my Canon Rebel XT dSLR to the festival. The website states:

Guests and their belongings are subject to search upon entry or re-entry. You can help keep the lines moving quickly by leaving large bags at home. Please return for any additions or amendments.

You may bring in the following items:
• Blankets
• Umbrellas (small hand-held style)
• Soft-sided coolers
• Baby Strollers
• Two factory sealed water bottles
up to 1 liter each
• Empty Camelback
• Binoculars
Non-professional equipment or
cameras without detachable lenses

Non-professional equipment OR cameras without detachable lenses. So, I emailed for more information and their reply:

This is the exact wording from the general info section of the website:

Allowed: Non-professional equipment or cameras without detachable lenses

Prohibited: Professional still camera equipment (no detachable lenses, no tripods, big zooms, or commercial use rigs).

We have determined that security will use “detachable lenses” as the specific determining factor between professional and non-professional. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Meghan with the Info Team

Okay, I have to say that I am stumped. Yes I can read that she says in the email “‘detachable lenses’ as the specific determining factor, but my camera is not at all “professional.” Or at least what I woulder consider a studio camera. Should I attempt to try to bring my camera which will probably be in a backpack with only one attached lens (a small lens at that)?

I am deeply torn by this and the fact that Amy Whinehouse is playing at the same time as Lupe Fiasco.

Dogs kick me off the couch.

The Mountain Goats.

I found this band surfing through my MySpace friends and non-friends. Never heard of them before this, but I like it so far. Kind of a folk-punk sound. They’ve got a bunch of live shows in the Internet Archive. I am listening to one right now.

The video to the song that got me interested in them.

Anyone else heard of them before and have any recommendations about them?

Geek Stuff - Pownce.

I’ve got one invite left to Pownce, a Twitter like service. Okay, first what’s Twitter? It’s kind of the online version of voicemail — er — except without the voice. And you can display what you’re doing at the time like in Facebook.

In other words: totally geeky information overload.

One invite left.

Harry Potter smokes Grease Lightning

Edit: Nattie said I wouldn’t post them, but here they are. Lyrics for Greased Lightning. I believe in the high school version they say scream.

Why this car is automatic
It’s systematic
It’s hydromatic
Why it’s grease lightning (Grease lightning)

We’ll get some overhead lifters and some four barrel quads
oh yeah
(Keep talking whoa keep talking)
A fuel injection cutoff and chrome plated rods oh yeah
(I’ll get the money I’ll kill to get the money)
With a four speed on the floor they’ll be waiting at the door
You know that ain’t no shit we’ll be getting lots of tit
In Grease Lightning
Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go

Go grease lightning you’re burning up the quarter mile
(Grease lightning go grease lightning)
Go grease lightning you’re coasting through the heat lap trial
You are supreme the chicks’ll cream for grease lightning
Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go

Purple french tail lights and thirty inch fins
oh yeah
A Palomino dashboard and duel muffler twins
oh yeah
With new pistons, plugs, and shocks I can get off my rocks
You know that I ain’t bragging she’s a real pussy wagon
Grease lightning

Go grease lightning you’re burning up the quarter mile
(Grease lightning go grease lightning)
Go grease lighting you’re coasting through the heat lap trial
You are supreme the chicks’ll cream for grease lightning
Go grease lightning you’re burning up the quarter mile
(Grease lightning go grease lightning)
Go grease lighting you’re coasting through the hit lap trial
You are supreme the chicks’ll cream for grease lightning
Lightning, lightning, lightning
Lightning, lightning, lightning
Lightning

Looking in.

Looking in.

Dogs peering in wondering why I am making so much noise in the basement.

Not the crazy dog blogger.

This one tops the cakes; no matter how many dog photos I’ve posted. Former Springfield area blogger BradJWard has gone as far as setting up a personalized dot com with live web cam for his pooch, Bella.

Now I am not say it’s not cute, or that I might check it out to make sure Bella is ok even though they’re in another state and that I’ve never met Brad and Bella… but… Clancy and Buddy are going to be so jealous.

Floor update.

I took the afternoon off today to sand the floor.

IMG_4198.CR2
Picture doesn’t do the floor justice, but it looks good.

I am using a U-Sander, a four disc non-directional sander. Rented it from True Value. Non-directional means that I don’t have to worry about staying with the grain. Because I had stripped so much off with the adhesive remover, I started out with 60 grit paper then moved up to 80, 100, and finally 120.

The floor is very smooth and slippery. If all goes well tomorrow night, I am going to try to get the first coat of polyurethane down. I am going for a recommended three coats.

Finally making some progress.

BFT - Best Friend Tools.

Remember when I was working on the floor? Well, while we were in Colorado it didn’t magically finish itself like I had planned. Yes, I should have finished this a long time ago. This weekend GTG and Roommate Steve were both out of town. That left me to 100% of my time being focused on finishing the floor… and eating Double Stuffed Oreos (bad GTG for leaving me with snacks).

The floor is now ready to be sanded. I spent the rest of the weekend pulling carpet staples which are worse than trying to find WMD’s or brushing your teeth and then drinking orange juice. My BFT’s (best friend tools) for the weekend: pliers, hammer, and nail set.

IMG_4190.CR2

I have (and mean it) to get the floor done this week.

Blame GTG.

More Rocky Mountains.

Uploading the last of the Colorado pictures. Looking back, I could do it all over again.

Tonight was just one of those nights. I was going to clean, go bike riding, then not go riding and go to the gym, then not go to the gym and nap then go to the gym and work on wedding stuff…. huh.

Several hours later it’s almost time to hit the sack.

Maybe tomorrow will be more productive.
