Before
After
I removed the putt-putt carpeting and railings from the front porch yesterday. This is what I am left with now (above); a glued up porch. The top of the steps actually look better than the front.
I got the railings off by cutting one with a six dollar hacksaw in an hour’s time, the other was removed by my generous neighbor’s dad and his electric saw. It only took him about ten minutes to get the other one off.
Just about the time I got the carpet off, my Dad stopped by. I originally planned to remove the glue with wire brushes. I was getting nowhere with it, so Dad headed home and brought over his power washer.
The power washer helped a little, but barely made a dent. I’d think you’d need something with the power to cut steel before the glue would actually come off. I am off to the hardware store later on today to find the easiest solution to remove the gunk.

Try some mineral spirits and/or Goof-Off to soften up the glue, then scrape most of it off with a wide putty knife. Then use the power washer.
Just spraypaint the whole thing shiny black. When that’s done, paint the remaining railings with a glossy pink. Problem solved!
If only glossy pink went with pistachio green. I bought some adhesive remover Sunday and tried it out. It took a good chunk off of the glue but will require many treatments.
It is also very flammable, and you can see Lucy in the sky with diamonds in five minutes or less. It’s the good stuff… for stripping glue.
I like the glue, almost looks like stucco if you squint.
I say keep the glue, and throw GLITTER on it!!
I am sure GTG can acquire mass quantities of glitter fairly easily.
