One Bud wasn’t enough. We had to go with a Bud-Light (according to Sterno).
Ya, we got another dog. GTG was convinced that Buddy was living a depressed solo life without a buddy. She’s been working on me for months for another dog. I avoided and ignored as much as possible. We even made two trips to the APL; each time with me giving an excuse why we could’t get another dog.
We were at the parade downtown last Saturday and the APL happened to be one of the groups passing by. GTG reports back to me after they pass by that there is a puppy just like Buddy in the parade. I smile and nod and somehow agree to visit the APL later on in the afternoon. Buddy was with us during the parade so he tagged along to meet the pup.
When we arrived GTG told the attendant that we were there to see a tan colored pup. She responded, “Ohhh, you mean Clancy,” the rest of the room echoed the same sentiments. Clancy was led out of his room after just waking up from a long nap. He had walked the whole way through the parade.
First thing that popped into my mind when I saw him was ’spider monkey.’ His legs were just as about as long as his body.
They told us that he was a Cocker-Spaniel - Daschund mix. It’s difficult to explain why we’re fans of the daschund hybrid.
Since Buddy was with us, he got to sniff around and see how he liked the dog. He approved.
We waited till Sunday to pick up Clancy because we had to bring in Buddy’s vet records to show them that he was up to date on his shots.
When the dogs first met - it was an obvious challenge to see who was the alpha dog. Buddy has about twenty pounds on four pound Clancy, but Clancy has razor sharp baby teeth and is just a little taller than Buddy. They’ve been going at eachother for the last day, but this evening they’ve seemed to find some kind of cease fire. They’re passed out on GTG as I am typing this.
They’ll play for a while but then one or the other will get a little too aggressive and ears and tails will get snipped at. So they’re adjusting, but after a week I assume everything should be fine.

Shoo-
You may have just made the single greatest dog-related decision of your life. We decided to get two dogs when we got dogs, instead of just getting one. It’s been great. They always have companionship, and I think they have really mellowed out sooner than single dogs do. They keep each other in check, and they play together all the time. It makes it a lot easier to leave the house for several hours knowing that they can kick it with each other.
Good going.
John
Congrats on Clancy. He’s adorable. Now, who gets to walk GTG’s ring down the isle, and who’s walking Shoo’s? That is the question…
John, That’s initially why I told Shoo I wanted another dog…besides the fact that I’m a sucker for a fuzzy head. But I wanted Buddy to have a buddy.
Nattie, I was trying to figure out a way to include both dogs in the ceremony…Thanks!!
Shoo, I know you’re going to do something with your Mt. Bike tonight. Or at least walk the dogs. Pls pass along any interesting info…
I’ve been walking every night for a few weeks. Feeling pretty good. Even did a little jogging last night. Or it might be “yogging.” The ‘J’ might be silent…
Awesome dog! Congrats on the new addition.
We got our second dog Emmet for Beck because he thought we were old and boring. They are best of friends now and honestly inseparable. Buddy will really enjoy a playmate!
Shoo, congrats on #2. You won’t regret it. A little more expense but double the snuggles. Buddy thanks you. I’ve been pushing for #3 for years but so far I’ve been shot down. I’ll quit after 3 but Lee says a kid first, then 3. I’m holding him to that (the #3 part that is).
Nattie,
If you ever want a walking/yogging partner, let me know. I’m working on getting back into shape…and failing miserably without a workout buddy–although the dogs help some.
