5 Reasons why I blog.

I saw this floating around the net as a meme and thought I put my own input into it.

1) Knowledge -I probably read about 50+ blogs in a day. My latest focus has been tech/marketing blogs. Kinda cool how people can actually make a living off of blogging. Possibly one day, the Buddy blog will be able to support his addiction to raw hide.

Some of my most knowlegable sites:

Where Dave is is an awesome Springfieldian site in which Dave catalogues his trips locally in Central Illinois, Great Britain, the East Coast - heck he’s all over the world. Supposedly he is in somewhere in Africa right now. His wit and humor make his blog a must read.

Seth Godin is an author / blogger that gives his perspective on marketing and interacting with the customer. I’ve been meaning to pick up his book Small is the New Big.

Scobleizer (Robert Scoble) - Scoble is like the creme de la creme of geek. If you are still new to the idea of web 2.0 - catch up by reading his blog.

Mashable - Into YouTube, MySpace, and Facebook? This site covers all the new social web globs.

2) Communication - Even though not everyone comments, I still know that my 6 readers know what I am doing. Ends the need for pointless conversations.

No, I am kidding. Blogging is a great tool to get the latest Buddy picture out. Saves me a bunch on printing.

3) Community - Believe it or not, I’ve made some real world connections to some Spfldbloggers. Russ from Springfield Rewind is actually my coworker. We don’t technically work together which is probably a good thing because we’d talk about web stuff all day. I’ve met Dave, Marie, and Kyle (okay, Kyle doesn’t count since I’ve know him since middle school). And I know people that know Matt, but I’ve never met him. Some day I’ll catch him downtown taking snapshots with his Pentax.

4) Practice - Although GTG will beg to differ, I get to practice my writing. I am not your Hemingway, but after you’ve spent a day writing technical support emails it is fun to write about (well) fun stuff; not why you are getting an error on line 255.

5) Pleasure - I’ve been writing on Gotshoo for about 3+ years and another 2 before that on different sites. I’ve documented wild nights at Browns, Cardinals games, an engagement… pretty much everything.

It’s addictive. Trust me, I’ve used the phrase in public, “I gotta blog this.”

    6. You are a nerd. It’s ingrained in you. You can’t help it.

I got Seth Godin’s book The Purple Cow for free at Gnomedex one year. A very good read. Last summer I had my first real ( ok somewhat real ) conversation with Scoble. I don’t think we had an actual conversation in previous years. Although we had crossed paths a time or two. Guess our conversation wasn’t to memorable on his part though. He didn’t give me any link love just a bit after that.

I agree. Nerdiness is an inherited trait. And you’re very good at it, so why not embrace it and nourish it. And I’m glad you blog cuz it gives me something some-what entertaining and/or fun to look at during these long days. Nattie hearts Buddy pix also…

I say, “I gotta blog this” in public. Unfortunately, I have a bad short-term memory…

Your geeky nerdy propensities are at times unbridled which is normal with your current status and life style. As matrimony approaches and married life become somewhat the norm, I envision your blogging capacity will moderately diminish as your personal time and resources are focused on other life priorities.

Nice breakdown shoo! I need to do something like this.
