Tonight was the perfect night to chill out. GTG has been fighting a cold for the last part of the week so we agreed to stay in, get a pizza, and download Thursday’s episode of The Office from iTunes.
One thought, “PAM, what are you doing!?”
Well, not much longer after we finished The Office, Buddy and GTG were both down for the count. So it has just been me and the computer. For about four and half hours - so far. I am starting to squint. I’ll be hitting the sack in a few.
While they were asleep, I was spurred on to update spfldbloggers.com after SJ-R’s announcement today that they are composing the “Ultimate Springfield Blogroll.” Yes, the ultimate followed by the tag line “SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM!”
Okay SJ-R, you want to play the blog game? Here are some free words of advice.
- Looks like you are using Wordpress to publish your blogs. Version 2.0.6 - not bad, but 2.1 just came out. Actually I have to update gotshoo too.
- You’ll want to change the way you organize your posts. Right now, you access a post this way sjrblog/?=123… you will want it this way sjrblog/2007/2/13/
- Since you are using Wordpress, you’ll want to install the Askimet spam plugin or you’ll just be another site for penis pills and x-x-x bowling.
There are a few other things you’ll want to do to improve your blog rating and search optimization, but those come at an hourly rate.
Ohh by the way, there is already a “Super-dooper-excellent-grade A-Springfield-blogroll!” And just updated too! I’d tell you what I updated but I think I am going to fall asleep at the monitor.
Good night.

I defiantly agree with you on the PAM situation I was not happy with her decisions.
I emailed the SJ-R about the Super-Ultimate Blogroll thing. As if they didn’t know already.
And yeah, what’s up with Pam?
ps- TONIGHT is actually the perfect night for a nerd. See you at trivia!
I need to upgrade The 26th Man to WP 2.1. I’m going to give it a shot in the next few days. I’m sure I’ll screw it up.
I did manage to install the new version of Akismet, which totally rules. I have the little spam counter button in the sidebar. It was at about 7,800 when I upgraded. It’s now well past 10,000 after about 10 days. Jerks.
I do have to ask, though: What difference does it make the way the permalinks are structured?
AP, 2.1 is super easy to upgrade. Upload the files, go to the url in the instructions, and then your done.
Askimet has stopped about 20k spams since I installed it in January. Every once in a while I get hit with a few but it is better than entering a CAPTCHA each time.
The longer version of the permalink allows Google and the other search engines to index your pages better.
Re: the permalinks… I did not know that. Google seems to find 26thman.com fairly easily already.
