Plow me over.

Whoa, 2006 is not a good year for weather in Springfield. Blizzard 06′ may not have been as deadly as Tornado 06′, but it still knocked out some power to residents, and more importantly, precious cable and cable internet. Okay, power may be a little more important than internet, but it’s not if you already have power.

I got a call from GTG at 5 am, a time reserved for farmers, alcoholics, and teachers who get up at the buttcrack of dawn. The only reasonĀ  I answered my phone, which was on vibrate, was because Buddy the heroic weather dog wouldn’t stop barking. I answered the phone to GTG saying, “I don’t have power…” I told GTG that I would be over in a jiffy.

You feel good about yourself when you are prepared and buy sand bags for your truck the night before, especially if you are on a heroic trip to pick up your cold girlfriend.
GTG only lives about a mile away from me. The main streets were okay, but the parking lot to her place was unplowed and blocked by a tree at one entrance.

The trick to navigating unplowed snow is to know where you are going, stop only when you have to stop, and start with a slow pace.

I pulled into her parking lot like the Dukes of Hazard, picked up GTG, and put the truck in reverse and gunned it. It was pretty awesome. Maybe I was little inspired by the guy from the auto parts store.

GTG and I had to make a trip to Brew Bakers this afternoon because my internet was still out of commission, and I got an urgent call from work. Free plug: BB has the best free wifi compared to Panera which is slow and blocks sites like YouTube.

Hope everyone else fared the weather as well as we did.

Sheesh. We were expecting to get hit hard….it’s not that bad here. 5ish inches of snow maybe? And the roads were clear right away. The North burbs got it harder, I guess. My parents still don’t have power….hope you guys are all hanging in there!

Are you still there, cuz I could sure use some chicken and rice soup, big time. Hint. Hero. Hint.

Oh, hi. Glad you guys are okay. I just heard on the radio 22,000 homes are still without power in Springfield. We just took a little spin to downtown and back. This town looks like a disaster. Reminds me of after the tornados. A lot of traffic lights are out, and people are running red lights where the traffic lights are on. Huge chunks of trees are laying in the roads and on cars. It’s not pretty.

Be safe and hope you get your internet back soon.

Marie, the internet was on later that evening. Driving is crazy when the weather gets bad. It seems like everyone’s driving IQ goes down to nothing.

John, What can I say? Jealous.
