Grill me up honey bunch.

I have a new girl (I mean) grill in my life. Oh’ she’s a beaut, a black Weber with a portable tripod base, ash catcher, and adjustable heat vent. GTG’s parents gave her to me as an early house warming gift this last weekend. I’ve already cooked up two wonderful meals. Burgers & brats one night, and marinated pork tenderloins and bacon cheese potatoes (a GTG creation) the next night. Both meals were received with exceptional praise although, I made note of a few things I could do differently next time.

Charcol kicks gas!

I am less than a week from closing on my house. For the first time I actually a little nervous. Possibly because I am at a point of no return and WILL be buying a house!! Still have no idea what I am going to paint the walls, but did have a dream last night that one room will be green. So, guess that’s a start?

As for now, I am going to wait till the day of the closing to come up with my final answer for colors. I have invited an expert, co-worker Paul, over that evening to check out the house and give his opinion about paint. Co-worker Paul used to be a painter.

That’s it for now.

Get ready for some unsolicited homeowners advice.

I’m not sure how it will work for you, but Illinois National Bank screwed us over when it came time to close on the house. After being told repeatedly that there would be no closing costs (or maybe at worst about 200 bucks), they told us ONE DAY before closing that the closing costs would be over 1000.

Banks suck, but it’s a short lived suckiness because right after signing your life away, you’ll get the keys to your house, go over to it and stand in the empty house thinking ‘what next?’ That’s one of the neatest moments of home ownership - the first evening.

We opted to paint all of our walls the color of a McDonalds Chocolate Milkshake. It’s a light neutral that looks really good with white trim, and after over a year, it’s not at all botheting us. On the other hand, I painted the garage green, and after just 6 or 7 months, I’m ready to change it.

I think there’s probably a formula out there that says that the brighter or more bold the color is, the quicker you’ll get tired of it.

Dave, thanks for the unsolicited homeowners advice. I hope I have done my homework enough to avoid your closing cost shock. I’ve been lucky to have a friend that is a finance major and work at a bank to help me go over my loan, and the bank I’ve been working with has, from my experience, explained the costs and fees out to the T. But that all remains to be seen on Monday.
