Illinois Times Best of Springfield 2006

The Illinois Times Best of Springfield 2006 is just around the corner. You may remember that a good looking blogger, (cough cough) me, won a few years back for “Best Local Website” for Justshoo.com (at the bottom). Actually, I was number two in between the SJ-R and the illinoistimes.com respectively. They felt pitty for me, so I got the write up. I actually won on a grass roots movement. Mr. K and Ed sent out mass emails and with the stroke of luck I made second place. Truth beknown, I didn’t even vote. Sounds like Paris Hilton at the last election.

I’ve noticed Unspelled, 11th Hour, ThirtyWhat? have all joined the race to become Springfield’s top bloggers. Of course my opponents fellow bloggers are all wonderful reads… I got a few reasons why you’d what to pick this guy.

1. Good Time Girl, aka GTG… She’s cute, she corrects my grammar (sometimes), and she makes a wonderful podcast! (ignore the Cub pennant in the background)

2. I am ol’ school. I’ve been using the most archaic methods to put together a blog before the word “blog” was even invented. Remember this design?sitedesign5b.jpg
3. Popcorn anyone?

4. And IF I win.. I’ll cut taxes, find the WMDs, create public health care, hire someone to write these blogs for me,
I will host a party for all of the Springfield area bloggers to meet! Really, I will. I got a grill, plenty of beer and wine, and a HOUSE!

So what do you think? Vote now!

Call up Shoo, tell him make me a grill.

Okay, not the same as Paul Wall and Nelly.

The orginal is now on gotshoo.

Suck the life out of my wallet.

My realtor called me this week to remind me to switch over my utilities. A day later, I’ve got everything sorted out except garbage. Who needs garbage pickup!? I think I’ll burn and compost everything! YA, A+ for the environment.

CWLP - They get 5 (out of 5) Shooeys (or stars - its Shooeys here on Gotshoo) - I was greated right off the bat by a real person. Very nice. Phone call lasted ~6mins.

Ameren Cilco - 3 1/2 Shooeys - Have a voice automated system but short menus, the system hung up on me the first time, they were nice, however insisted on registering my cable, phone, and signing me up for other crap. Phone call lasted ~10mins.

InsightBB - 1 Shoo 1/2 Shoo (after I read this over again) - Voice automated, the operator insisted listing all the features of every package I could get. She asked how my broadband was going to be connected to my computer - either USB or ethernet (she couldn’t say ethernet). I told her that I would be connecting to a router, she then said it had to be ethernet or USB. Okay, ethernet (I made sure she understood the correct pronunciation). I then had to agree or say yes to the minimum requirements for broadband usage. Cd-rom drive? Uhh 128 megabytes of Ram? Ya? (I should have asked if 2 GIG was too much) What operating system? XP…. She had to go through all this after I had told her that I could setup my cable modem (which I own) up by myself.. Geesh. AND.. to get free installation I have to agree to take their digital box for 5$ a month charge. Its so I can accept more channels and pay them more cash whenever I feel like it. I think it has a credit card reader on the side!! Maybe I should look into DSL? Gah- but the difference in speed????

Phone call lasted ~16+ mins.

Sweet!

I am taking next week off to work on the house, but I am also taking GTG to see Ryan Adams at the Pageant!!

Grill me up honey bunch.

I have a new girl (I mean) grill in my life. Oh’ she’s a beaut, a black Weber with a portable tripod base, ash catcher, and adjustable heat vent. GTG’s parents gave her to me as an early house warming gift this last weekend. I’ve already cooked up two wonderful meals. Burgers & brats one night, and marinated pork tenderloins and bacon cheese potatoes (a GTG creation) the next night. Both meals were received with exceptional praise although, I made note of a few things I could do differently next time.

Charcol kicks gas!

I am less than a week from closing on my house. For the first time I actually a little nervous. Possibly because I am at a point of no return and WILL be buying a house!! Still have no idea what I am going to paint the walls, but did have a dream last night that one room will be green. So, guess that’s a start?

As for now, I am going to wait till the day of the closing to come up with my final answer for colors. I have invited an expert, co-worker Paul, over that evening to check out the house and give his opinion about paint. Co-worker Paul used to be a painter.

That’s it for now.

Podcast #4

Footage from the game!

How do you know when you are in the Midwest?

How do you know?

When all the Springfield blogs are commenting on the storm that came through!

Dave & Courtney took pictures.

Marie has a minute by minute account of the storm.

The 26th Man has another to the minute account.

Weather Man’s Wisdom phoned in a blog post.

Personal recap of the storm: Westchester was unscathed; Jerome had no damage (sweet - that’s where the new house is); Leland Grove was out of power; some tree fell on a van on the East side; Other than that, a nasty storm.

Tubes clogged.

I’ve been trying to send you guys the Internet all morning! Jeez, tubes must be clogged again. Damn YouTube!

Still alive. No, I am not sitting in my rocking chair getting older by the day (Nattie). I will have an update here, soon…

Jon Stewart + Ted Stevens = Net Neutrality

This is priceless! My previous post on net neutrality.

Can I keep my dirty plate, please?

I made stop by Panera tonight for dinner and some time to blog.

Panera must have the world’s most notorious bussers. I had to fight off two lanky teenagers from taking my plate. Granted, it’s 8:30 and they are closing in 30 mins., I still had a whole French baguette and a little Caesar salad left - the first time. The place is at minimum capacity right now and there are two of them swarming around like bees on a open soda can in the hot summer. I think if my personality was more confrontational I would tell them ‘what’s up’ and that I like to finish my food without my plate being swiped out from underneath me. From then on, I could be known as the guy that you don’t touch his plate - “You should’ve seen what he did to the last guy!!! All I know is that he was crying with yellow and brown stains!”

My Ying and Yang are at peace tonight so there will be no throw-down in Panera tonight. I will consider that were both even because I am using the Internet to take over the world right now; Deal!?

I had to finally relent and give up my plate on the second pass by as I swallowed the last piece of my baguette. Poor dirty plate. We didn’t even get a chance to get acquainted.

Dude, don’t be a hater. You can borrow my iSight camera.

More than likely everyone has seen the new Mac commercials? The ones’ with the a guy in a business suit (PC) and a twenty-something (Mac) discussing the features between Macs and PCs?

If not, enjoy: http://www.apple.com/getamac/

I prefer these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA3NyRr4Eng

Wicked!

Is it just me, or do all art + design people like to use the word “wicked”?

I had a meeting with a friend / design guy not too long ago and every other reference was emphasized with the word, “Check out this wicked CSS!” And yes, it was wicked CSS.

And, John, whom I have known since I was three and likes to draw naked ladies for me, uses the word all the time.

I am not hatin’ on the word- just pointing something out.

I personally prefer “stoked,” but that’s just me.

Just a few weeks from the official closing date. My roommate just moved out this weekend. It’s a little weird being in the apartment by myself. I have no problem with it - just weird. Roommate Kyle is doing well in Bloomington, although the hallway in his place smells like curry.

His baby, the 52″ behemoth tv, fared well in the travel. It was a b__h to move though. I hope he is enjoying his high def. One of the first things he did was check the speed on the internet. What-a-nerd!

GTG, my expert painter / gf, and I went to Lowes to pick up some paint swatches. I don’t really think we needed the 250 samples, but you got to make sure the “Prince Purple Passion” and “Tang Orange” match just right.

I still don’t know what color I am going to paint the walls. I figure I’ll walk into my house on the day of the closing and just randomly pick a color.

Pictures from the house now online. Click the sold sign for the new house set.
