Another one for the rear end.

I went biking in Washington Park last night around 8ish. After bumming out for the whole evening I had to get out of the AC and sweat a little. What? The humidity was only 150%. No biggie.

I am still getting used to my new bike. More specifically the clips that I have for my bike shoes.

I was trying to pull a wheelie and ride it through. Did pretty good the first time, but then sucked it up on the last one I pulled. I went flying with bike in tow all the way on butt / back.So right now I got a pain-in-the-butt.

I don’t think anyone saw it, but I would have sured laughed at myself if I saw it.

And if this post was graded by a English teacher, I would get berated for using too many I’s.

lyrical bliss.

You know how their are some music lyrics that you just ask yourself, “how in the hell did they come up with that?”

It’s a pretty good example of how life is, or becomes: beauty, interaction, nature, textures, relationships, terrorism, aging, birth, turmoil, tragedy, happiness …

I think when you stop asking questions then life becomes boring and stagnant.

Now life isn’t boring for me in the least of the sense, but it is becoming very mundane. My horizons seem very limited right now. Although in reality I can go anywhere I want (almost). I am educated, have money, and a well stocked resume. Maybe its a case of the young and eager 20’s: Not wanting to be limited by the elements of my environment.

I admit, I am still finding myself. First time living on my own. Realizing just because someone fits into your life that they are not always the ‘one.’ Building relationships to prosper in society. Finding one’s true calling. All normal questions and ambitions of life.

Don’t get me wrong, I am happy in life and thank God for everything I have. I am heading up to Chicago for some get away time at the end of July. I am a die-hard Cardinals fan, but the city of Chicago just does something for me. And yes, I will wear my Cards hat up there. But the size of the city, more for a tourist than anything, blows everything out of the water. I always come back from Chi-town liking Springfield even more and feeling more at home.

This isn’t a typical blog entry but sometimes you got to put some thoughts down.

Up and coming Nigerian Reggae?

I am not big on talk radio but I listen to Molson and Lee everytime I am out tooling around the city. Besides being entertaining, I can honestly say that they are true American heroes for the common man.

Have you ever gotten one of those emails from Nigeria that follow suit: “Dear sir, I come from a royal family in Nigeria. My brother has died and I am entitled to his enheritance. I must pay a processing and transaction fee before I can acquire the money” … ya-da-ya-da. They want you to send them money and they will then send you ‘portion’ of the money…. bla bla bla… rip off.

Well good ol’ Mr. Molson and Lee are scamming the scammers in a partnership with 419Eater.com they have formed a faux record company Goosed-Up Productions. In search of new talent they have come across Tenor Hot an inspiring reggae artist. Tenor Hot by trade is really one of these scammers.

Molson and Lee have been calling Tenor Hot in Nigeria promissing him a record deal. They have several phone calls and emails recorded. I suggest that you check them out: http://www.molsonandlee.com/tenor.html

Call 5 is my favorite.

Not enough time.

I could use a 3-day weekend every weekend. No, really. Every weekend.

Friday night I made taco’s. Very delicious. I am this close to becoming a culinary master.

Room mate Kyle was gone all week. First thing he asks, “Did you have any girls over?” My response, “No.”
“Did you have anyone else over?”
“No.”
“Then what did you do?”
“Nothing.”

Utterly boring.

In reality, I did do some stuff. Been doing well on my biking kick. My boss has been getting back into biking as a stress reliever, so I have been riding with him on the inter-urban trail. It is a good stress reliever after dealing with people all day.

I tried making ammends with someone the other night. A few free drinks later, I think the hatred was gone. And they say money can’t buy everything. I beg to differ.

Natty- message for you from the other night, “I ain’t no holla back girl!”

My good buddy Johnny turned 24 on the 25th. I told you that you didn’t want me making whatever I wanted to make for your birthday drink!!! BTW, hot ex-gf.

Ok, that’s enough for the weekend…. Everyone have a good week!!

Update in Shooey’s world.

Things are just flying by… whewwwww..

Did you ever stick your hand out of a moving car and make an airplane wing? I still like doing that.

As Farah would say this is a ‘real life’ update. First of all, my right index finger is not enjoying the blogging. I got it caught in a spoke while trying to align the wheel on my bike. So obviously, I have been biking. Trying to do 4-8 miles every other day. I would do more but my schedule doesn’t permit it right now.

The sitting room is no longer just the sitting room. I bought a tv off a friend. It comes in great when Cardinal ball games are on!

Cooking! The grill is up and going. Used it a few times. BBQ chicken and hamburgers are just some of the delicacies that I have served.

Work…. this is a 2 pager. Just take it from me that I am busy. In fact, right now I am putting off finishing a house plan that I brought home from work.

The love life? Enquiring minds always want to know. I’ll let you read about it in the tabloids.

I turned on the A.C. tonight. Nice and cool.

Getting a little sun and fun.

That does it for now.

Sounds so sweet.

I talked my neighbor aka OSC Damon from NIL8 out of a free CD. I am enjoying it. I missed NIL8’s antic’s and lyrical spins.

Came across your non-typical reggae jammer while listening to WOXY. Matisyahu: The Hasidic Reggae Superstar What I get from his bio is that he is a born again Jew that does reggae!? Track I heard online was “King Without A Crown.” I am diggin’ it.

Video of Matisyahu on Jimmy Kimmel.

My girl, I mean grill

THE GRILL IS ALIVE! After an hour of pulling old briquets and the rusted remains of the grill, she was a new grill. Very sexy. A shiney new aluminum blinging burner. HOT HOT new lava rocks. A propane tank with more gas than my room mate can expell (and that’s a lot). And a plastic cover to keep her dry.

She was ready to hit the culinary highway and prove that she had the makings of a true grill. I threw an old classic at her; bbq chicken. At first she was a little flared up. She did not know how to simmer correctly. But with a little adjusting of the nobage she was smokin’.

She impressed me. I didn’t know if I would like her style. Propane that is. But with her new black skirt, and her hotter than hot temperature she has won a place into my stomach.

Hasty bagel server

With the rolling thunder of the summer storm that knocked the power out at my humble pimp-nerd apartment I headed to Panera. I like Panera. I pretty much love Panera. Faux leather chairs, classical music in the background, a quiet roar of society interacting, and I must not forget the FREE WiFi.

This is the 2nd day that I have been at Panera. I have the hardest time working from the luxury of my apartment. I think the appeal is that I have a barista ready for me at anytime to create a mega-caffeine concoction with the oh-soo occasional pretty face wondering by. I just can’t seem to get that out of Kyle.

But alas, thank you Panera. Now how about a free bagel or something?

Classy

Now these are the kind of girls I am looking for. You know?!? The one’s where we can all sit down sip’n on our 40’s discussing world politics, global warming, how Frank Loyd Wright should have designed mobile homes, or should the current interest rates stay at the current rate.

I know Stern is all over this one.

BBS Nostalgia

Before MySpace, Napster, AIM, Y! there were BBS’s. A dial-up portal precursor to web forums. Came across this article on Wired today. BBS’s were great. You could connect using software either through DOS or Win 3.11. Max speed at that time (around 1992) was about 14.4 with the occasional expensive 28.8 connection. You could download software (usually freeware), Doom (the original version), play some 16 color RPG games, leave messages for other members.

Timeless story I remember is my room mate got hooked on Doom and Doom 2. What Kyle obsessed with games?? Say it ain’t so. He was calling a BBS in Mt. Pulaski (not thinking of the long distance charges). I believe we were 13-14ish. He would connect to this BBS and meet people in a chat room then someone would start a multiplayer game of Doom. Well Kyle was playing several hours a day over dial-up. What are teenagers suppose to do during the summer? Let’s just say he racked up one hell of a phone bill that summer.

A list of BBS’s in the 217 area code. Cool list. They have all of the original phone numbers listed.

I used Fantasy Land, USA-1 BBS, The Quest, The Bone Yard

Gut Instinct

Don’t you hate when you have a gut instinct and you ignore it? A bet on a horse race, someone’s sexuality, the under lyings of a secret relationship, that corporations are inserting addictive substances into our food…. You get my drift. We all have them. In fact, some of you might be thinking something about me. And my answer is, “no.” No to what? Whatever you’re thinking…

I can’t go into to much detail, but I had a gut instinct come true. Or at least to the point of “That was so like ‘duh (my preppy girl inner voice) why can’t you realize what is going on.” Maybe I obsess too much. Or maybe I just think what I want to think…..

This is like some So-crates (Bill & Ted) stuff.

SHE’S ALIVE

Finally got a phone call from Emily. Of course, it was last night when I was working at the bar. She informed me that her comment got stuck in my anti-spam-comment system. So I thought I just post it.

I know something you can blog about! I just got in from hiking the Chilkoot trail which runs 33 miles from coastal rainforest in Alaska into the tundra and the boreal forest of Canada in three days!

http://www.nps.gov/klgo/chilkoot.htm

I also was fortunate enough to spend the whole time without bumping into bears until the last day when I was finishing up the hike. I had three miles left to go and I was walking along the railroad tracks built into the mountain so I was pinned in by the mountainside and a steep drop-off. What do you know? Baby bear gets curious and then runs away. As if that wasn’t enough, a much larger black bear was just around the corner and decided that he didn’t want me to get past him so I, having nowhere else to go, had to watch him and follow him for an hour and a half. At one point, I almost made it past him when he climbed down the drop-off but he decided that wasn’t okay with him. He ran right up the mountain and stood no more than 30 feet right in front of my roommate and I. We didn’t even make it a quarter mile and a train came by so me and my roommate flagged the conductor down. He actually stopped the train and gave us a ride for the next three miles. Amazing! It was simply amazing! Oh yeah, it freaked me out a little too…

Sorry I haven’t been keeping up lately, but I’ve been keeping quite busy figuring out all the history and the trails and things. I do miss you all very much and I hope you all find some amazing way to enjoy your summer also. Ed…when are you coming to the great North?

Ohh Frosty’s are so good!

I treated myself and Kyle to a frosty last night after working a few hours on the computer last night. As a milkshake afficianado, a frosty is not a milkshake. I’ve tried in the past to replicate the frostiness of the frosty but no luck. I think the key ingredient is that they use more ice in their mixture. Giving it that ‘frosty-ness.’

I can’t wait for the weekend to be here. No, wait. I work this weekend at the bar Friday and Saturday. I am so getting burned out. Looks like the month of July will be my vacation month. I hope!
